Moscow will Allocate 84mln to Support 14 Animation Studios

The Moscow government approved the allocation of about 84 million rubles in grants to 14 animation studios in 2021, Deputy Mayor of the capital Natalya Sergunina said through the portal of the city administration.

With this money, companies will be able to purchase equipment and software, and can also spend it on employee salaries.

Studios that produce cartoons and are in the relevant registers of the federal Ministry of Culture or a specialized association could apply for grants. To receive support, a company needs to increase its film production revenue by three times the grant.

This year, Moscow creators of non-commercial author’s animation will also be able to apply for one more grant. To get it, you need to win a prize at a well-known Russian or international festival of author’s animation. Acceptance of applications is planned to open in November.

Studios can take advantage of the business support measures already in place in the city (for example, to compensate for part of the costs of product adaptation during export). The targeted subsidy allows you to reimburse the cost of literary translation, adapting text to video, creating an additional soundtrack, producing subtitles, renting premises and the equipment necessary for this.

In addition, Moscow animation companies can apply for a grant for exporters, which is provided to small and medium-sized businesses in the presence of an export contract in the amount of at least six million rubles.
