Russian animation companies are taking part in the 22nd China International Cartoon and Animation Festival (CICAF), held in Hangzhou, China, from June 15 to 19, 2026. Recognized as the largest animation festival in Asia, CICAF brings together animation professionals, producers, distributors, broadcasters, licensing companies, and content creators from around the world.

Representatives of Russian animation studios and the Animated Film Association of Russia are participating in the festival and the International Animation & Game Business Conference (iABC). The business mission is supported by the Russian Export Center and the Moscow Export Center and is being organized for the fourth consecutive year.

One of the key participants in the Russian delegation is Soyuzmultfilm Studio, which celebrates its 90th anniversary in 2026. As part of the festival, the studio is presenting a dedicated exhibition stand where visitors can meet some of the most iconic characters of Russian animation, including Cheburashka and the heroes of Nu, Pogodi!.

Participation in CICAF continues Soyuzmultfilm’s anniversary program in China. Earlier this month, screenings of classic and contemporary Russian animation were held during Chongqing International Animation Week. The Chinese program features films from the studio’s golden collection, including Hedgehog in the Fog by Yuri Norstein, Crocodile Gena, Mitten, and Nu, Pogodi!, alongside contemporary auteur animation projects.

The animated series Pchelography by RG Brothers Studio is also being presented at CICAF. On June 16 and 17, the project team is introducing international partners to the series’ educational concept, which combines entertainment with learning about geography and world cultures. The studio is also exploring opportunities for content localization, distribution, and licensing across Asian markets.

According to the creators, participation in the festival is aimed at building partnerships with distributors and licensing companies while strengthening cooperation with countries across Southeast Asia.

Founded in 2005, CICAF is China’s first state-level international animation festival and one of the country’s leading cultural industry platforms. Organized by the National Radio and Television Administration of China, China Media Group, and the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province, the festival features exhibitions, competitions, screenings, industry forums, project pitching sessions, the Golden Monkey Awards, and a large-scale animation market. Every year, it attracts participants from more than 30 countries and regions.

Participation in CICAF and the iABC business program provides Russian animation companies with opportunities to expand international cooperation, promote Russian animation brands abroad, and strengthen their presence in one of the world’s most dynamic animation markets.
