Russia and ASEAN Countries to Meet at the First ASEAN-Russia Animation Market in Khabarovsk

From October 1 to 4, 2026, Khabarovsk will host the first ASEAN-Russia Animation Market, an international professional forum bringing together the animation industries of Russia and 11 ASEAN countries to promote co-production, distribution, and cultural cooperation. The forum will become a major business event for the animation industry across Russia and Southeast Asia.

“ASEAN-Russia Animation Market is a professional platform that will bring together representatives of the animation industries of Russia and ASEAN countries in Khabarovsk. This year, participants from 11 countries will join us to discuss — for the first time ever — the prospects for cooperation in animation and media across an entire region and to lay the groundwork for joint international initiatives. The business programme will include thematic sessions, project pitching sessions, and screenings of animated content from ASEAN countries. We expect ASEAN-Russia Animation Market to become a focal point for professional dialogue and the development of international partnerships in the animation industry.”

The forum will bring together representatives of animation studios, production companies, distributors, television channels, digital platforms, educational institutions, development and support organisations, investors, and experts in children’s and family content from Brunei, Vietnam, Timor-Leste, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, and Russia.

The programme will include a round table with government authorities and development institutions, presentations on the media industries of Russia and ASEAN countries, thematic sessions on co-production, distribution, children’s content, AI, and education, special screenings of animation from ASEAN countries, an exhibition on the history of animation, as well as the launch of a bilingual professional platform for knowledge exchange and networking. The programme will also feature B2B meetings, informal receptions, and cultural events.

The forum is being organised with the support of the ASEAN Secretariat, the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, and the Russian Animated Film Association (RAFA), and will serve as the key offline event of the ASEAN-Russia Animation Connect project. Its partner in Khabarovsk is the 5th Animur International Animation Film Festival, which will provide the forum with a professional venue, an audience, and years of experience in organising one of the leading animation festivals in the Asia-Pacific region.

Festival Director Alexandra Dubovskaya notes that the fifth anniversary edition marks an important milestone in the animation history of the East, while Animur continues its mission of strengthening international dialogue and creating new opportunities for animation filmmakers. In 2026, the festival competition will once again present audiences with programmes of independent animation by leading Russian and international filmmakers. This year, the festival received 2,970 submissions from filmmakers representing 111 countries, with entries spanning virtually every continent.
