Co-Production, New Markets and International Projects: What Awaits Participants of the ASEAN–Russia Animation Market

From October 1 to 4, 2026, Khabarovsk will become a platform for professional dialogue between the animation industries of Russia and ASEAN countries. The international ASEAN–Russia Animation Market will bring together industry representatives from 12 countries to foster co-production and distribution, establish new partnerships, and launch joint projects.

The forum will serve as the key offline event of the international project “Russia–ASEAN: Animation Territory,” aimed at developing long-term cooperation between the animation industries of Russia and ASEAN countries. The project is implemented with the support of the Russian Ministry of Economic Development, the ASEAN Secretariat, and the Russian Animated Film Association. In addition to the forum in Khabarovsk, the project includes research into the animation markets of 12 countries, Animation Lab online workshops, and a bilingual professional platform.

One of the central topics of the business program will be the transition from distribution to co-production. Industry representatives will discuss distribution models, barriers and growth opportunities in the Russian and ASEAN markets, as well as prospects for developing joint animation projects. A separate session will focus on training professionals for the future of animation, cooperation between education and industry, and the development of joint educational programs.

An important part of the forum will be the Russia–ASEAN Pitching Session, where Russian studios will present their animation projects to potential partners from ASEAN countries. The program will also feature presentations by ASEAN countries highlighting the specifics of their national animation markets and opportunities for international cooperation.

The ASEAN–Russia Animation Market program will also include B2B meetings and negotiations, conferences and roundtable discussions, presentations by Russia and ASEAN countries, and screenings of animation projects.

The forum will be held with the support of the 5th Animur International Animation Film Festival. The ASEAN–Russia Animation Market business program will be complemented by festival screenings and special events.
