International animated film festival Animur has announced the shortlist for competitive program

III International animated film festival Animur will once again unite the world of animation in Khabarovsk, Russia on November 1-4.

 

The easternmost animation festival in Russia has reached a new milestone this year, receiving a record number of submissions. A total of 2,300 submissions from 102 countries were submitted to the competition. For comparison, in 2022 there were only 1,200 submissions from 73 countries. Among the leaders in the number of submitted projects this year are Russia, Brazil, China, India, Iran, the USA, Argentina, France, Turkey and the UK. Such diversity confirms that Animur is a demanded platform for international communication and exchange of experience between animators from all over the world.

The festival’s Management Committee has completed a complex selection process. Out of 2,300 applications, 105 projects– 41 of which will be screened for the first time – were shortlisted for the competitive program. 81 short films and 24 episodes of animated series. The festival will present works by animators from 27 countries, with a total of 68 animated films being submitted globally. A great deal of cultural traditions and trends of animated art, original ideas, interesting plots, and a high level of skill are the fundamentals that unite all the projects.

 

Based on the results of the competition, the festival jury will announce winners in various nominations: the Grand Prix, the prize for best directing and best animation, for the best series and best student film, the prize of the festival’s Management Committee, and more. Moreover, this year Animur will announce People’s Choice award for the first time in the festival history. Information on the audience jury will be announced by the festival’s Management Committee on the festival’s official website and social media.

 

Every viewer will find a screening session to suit their taste. Some screenings are recommended for family viewing and will appeal to youngest members of the audience, while other screenings are more suited to teenagers and adults – these animated films bring up serious topics, use an unusual innovative style of storytelling, demonstrate unexpected visual solutions and address pressing social issues through humor.

 

In addition to the competitive program screenings, viewers of the Animur festival will also be presented with an extensive non-competitive program. The list of selected animated films for this program will be announced later in September.

 

Guests are welcome to attend masterclasses, creative meetings, lectures and discussions – the festival will not only be a reason to watch interesting art-house films, but also a platform for communication between professionals and aspiring specialists, gaining new knowledge, and promotion of the animation industry.

The festival is held with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.

The festival organizers are the Khabarovsk Krai Public Organization “Development of Animation Art in Khabarovsk Krai” and the Khabarovsk Krai Government.

The general sponsor of the festival is the Russian animated film studio Soyuzmultfilm.

The partner of the festival is the Agency of Creative Industries of Khabarovsk Krai.

The festival sponsors of this year are the development group of companies DA!Development, which builds houses of the Kultura project, and the architectural bureau KAMURU.

 

The partners of the program are the Russian Animated Film Association, the animation studio Voronezh, the animation school Animation School, the Pacific National University, the cinema Gigant, the animation studio Mechtalёt.

 

Animur Management Committee expresses their gratitude to all the participants and expect guests at the screenings on November 1-4 at Gigant, the largest cinema in Khabarovsk.
