The delegations of Russia and China discussed the prospects of joint film production

A dialogue between Russian and Chinese cinematographers on the development of cooperation in the field of cinematography and joint film production took place at the State Administration of Cinematography of the People’s Republic of China. The Russian delegation was headed by the Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Andrey Malyshev, Chinese – Deputy Head of the State Administration of Cinematography of the People’s Republic of China Mao Yu.
Russia and China are actively working to increase cooperation in the field of cinema in accordance with the results of the talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS summit.
As Andrey Malyshev noted, ‘Chinese films are popular in Russia, and we know with what interest Russian films are watched on numerous Chinese cinema screens. Therefore, our cooperation has a huge potential for further development.’
As part of the film dialogue, Russian cinematographers presented joint Russian-Chinese film production projects.
Central Partnership Film Company CEO Vadim Vereshchagin told his Chinese colleagues about three promising areas of cooperation: joint production of films, TV series, animation and television shows; cinema distribution; and the creation of remakes of Russian films.
Mao Yu, Deputy Head of the State Administration for Cinematography of the People’s Republic of China, assured the participants of the dialogue that the Russian proposals would be carefully studied and expressed confidence that such a format of interaction between specialists from the two countries would bear fruit in the very near future. Each initiative proposed by the Russian side is of interest to the Chinese film market and is an excellent basis for creating a joint product.
The head of the Chinese delegation suggested holding regular meetings of film producers and producers from Russia and China and using the iconic Film Festivals held in the two countries to maintain a constant dialogue and exchange ideas.
