Soyuzmultfilm and Konstantin Chaykin Release a Limited Edition of Watches Featuring Matroskin

In the spring of 2025, one of the polls held in conjunction with Russian Animation Day asked respondents to choose their favorite animated character. The majority of votes went to the cat Matroskin, who surpassed Cheburashka and Domovyenok Kuzya in popularity.
It is symbolic that it was precisely in 2025 that the landmark collaboration between the Konstantin Chaykin manufacture and the Soyuzmultfilm film studio began. As a result, the Matroskin wristmon was born—just as charismatic as its literary and animated prototype created in the early 1970s by writer Eduard Uspensky.
A Positive Attitude in Any Circumstances
The master set about embodying the image of the striped, talking cat in a wristwatch with the energy, passion, and inventiveness characteristic of both himself and Matroskin. Every design detail contributes to the overall image, making the new wristmon as close as possible to the beloved cartoon character. One such detail is the cat’s whiskers, rendered using the relief guilloché decoration technique. They extend from the dial onto the bezel of the case—an innovation introduced for the first time in the wristmon collection.
The shape of the stainless-steel case reflects the spirit of animal-themed watches: the upper lugs are stylized to resemble Matroskin’s cat ears. As with other similar models, the construction uses a single crown, which makes the silhouette cleaner and more natural.
The Matroskin wristmon is especially close to the animated image because the cat’s face on the dial is constantly changing. The character’s eyes serve as the hour and minute indicators. The “moon smile”—a signature design element—adds dynamism to the look. Another important nuance is the exclusive collectible strap, developed by Konstantin Chaykin specifically for this model. He chose to make it leather, but not a classic solid color—striped, as any other choice would be hard to imagine.
Just the Way Matroskin Likes It: High-End Watchmaking Mechanics
The Matroskin watch is powered by the K.18-27 automatic caliber, created on the basis of the G200 movement. This is a high-end automatic mechanism with a 68-hour power reserve, supplied to the Konstantin Chaykin manufacture in a custom configuration. The Joker indication module is entirely developed and produced by the Konstantin Chaykin manufacture in accordance with the canons of fine watchmaking. Traditional Haute Horlogerie finishing techniques are applied to the decoration of its components.
